Help, please!

I'm so excited to report that contractions are coming and going, as is a dull ache in my back... and some other weird 'symptoms,' but I'll spare you the details. There are some things that just shouldn't be posted on a blog.

Anyway, I've been trying to get everything together for the hospital. I want to pack enough so that I feel comfortable and prepared, but I also don't want the nurses to think we're MOVING in for the week! So, been-there, done-that mommies, I need your advice!

What items did you take to the hospital that you were SO HAPPY to have?? Did you take anything that was completely useless??

Def. the bobby and some lotion! Maybe its just me but I love my lotion to keep my skin mosturized..plus it helps when you massage your stomach..helps your uterus get back down to normal. Let's see...The hospital had a nursing gown so I didn't use my own...For the labor I'd recommend bringing something like a tennis ball for Ryan to roll on your lower back...the pressure point..it really helps...if I can think of anything else I'll let you know

I'm not a mommy, but I brought my X-Box with me. There was a TV in the room and it worked great.

Bring a comfy robe (or big wrap sweater) and slippers for walking the hall. You can live in hospital gowns while you are there (no need to pack any clothes other than what you want to wear home) but it makes it SO much more comfortable if you have something else to cover up with. I lived in my robe while I was there and I was thankful to have my slippers when I walked the halls :-) Yay!!! SO excited for you!

Woohoo! With Brody I packed diapers...no need for those, they provide them! Definitely bring your TOOTHBRUSH!!! I brought make up both times too, because I just felt so much more beautiful and less floppy the day after I had the babies. Good luck girl!

I was actually really glad that I brought my own pjs. Yes, the hospital does have gowns, but I felt much more myself changing into my own clothes after having Anthony. I also brought my own pillow and my favorite down throw, and a pillow for my husband. I wanted to be comfortable, and having my own things really helped. Just make sure whatever you pack you won't mind if it gets ruined. We also brought some CDs and DVDs. Other than all my toiletries, and some clothes for Anthony, that's pretty much all I can think of. The one thing I wish I would have packed for Anthony was the little gloves that keep him from scratching his face. Oh yeah, and I also packed snacks. I was really hungry after having Anthony!

I would actually say as little as possible. I know that is opposite of what others have written but you are so excited to see your baby that you don't really care about all of the other stuff. I did have my own lite pj's which I was grateful for. Maybe some flip flops?

Sooo excited for you! I will checking daily (not that you would post right when he is born but still :)

Comfy clothes to wear other than the weird hospital gowns. Like a nerd I thought I HAD to wear what the hospital gave me. Then probably on the 3rd or 4th day I asked the nurse if I could change into some of my own clothes and she said "Oh yes, wear what you feel comfortable in." I was like "duh!". All my guests probably started to think I loved those hospital gowns! What a nerd!

a lot of this is repeating what other said, but... I was so excited that i brought my own comfy clothes (still maternity size, definitely!) and i was able to get out of the hospital gown as soon as i popped her out! also bring your own toiletry items (shampoo, toothbrush, etc.) so you can refresh yourself afterwards -- which you will WANT to do! also, i brought my make-up etc. so that I'd feel human and like myself again the next day - which i'm SOOOOO glad i did! definitely bring slippers because you cannot (and don't want to) walk around on the cold floors. a camera, of course! :) do NOT bring undies, pads, etc.! they will provide you with all that which is much better than what you'd bring for yourself. and don't be afraid to ask them for extras before you leave the hospital -- you may (i certainly did) want some at home too. video camera? i'm so glad my mom videoed the whole birth (g-rated, she was up by my head so anyone can watch the video). :) oh, and DEFINITELY BRING A COUPLE OF YOUR OWN PILLOWS!!! there's are paper thin and completely useless!!! you'll feel much more comforted by your own pillows. there's my 2 cents, i'll let you know if i think of something else... YAYYYYY! TELL THAT BABY IT'S TIME TO COME AND AND PLAY! :)

I see people bring in 3-4 bags, plus the carseat, boppy,...I always wonder how many babies they are expecting!! I would pack 2 bags...one bag you bring to Labor and Delivery with you...If you want your laptop, ipod, movies, playing cards, flip flops, tennis balls...things you will need during labor. After delivery (if you go to another room) I would bring the postpartum bag out of the car, with personal care items, robes, makeup, going home clothes for the two of you etc. Good luck!!

I wanted to mention that I acutally wasn't a fan of the boppy. I loved having it to prop Anthony up in and I sat on it a lot after having him, but I did not like it for nursing. After a couple months I bought a "breast friend" and I loved it! Although it is a lot more bulky than the boppy, it made my back and neck much less sore when nursing. Anyways, just thought I'd tell you. I know a lot of people love the boppy too.

Definitely pack kinda light. A comfy gown/robe, slippers, a camera (don't be afraid to use the flash, unless they tell you not to) or camcorder, clothes to wear home, your own shampoo and soap etc, and don't forget the carseat - you can't go home without it!
I took crosswords with me, as well.. it helped pass the time 'til I dilated to 10... They were pretty much useless after the delivery, though, as all my time was spent sleeping and breastfeeding. lol
The hospital will provide you with everything else that you'll need for the baby and for your recovery.
