What's in a Name?

I took another round of newborn photos yesterday. More on that later, though. But in the interest of full disclosure... I did it!

Moving along.

I'm a thinker.

...and a planner.

I cannot tell you how often I've found myself deep in though over this photography endeavor lately. Developing my fun hobby into a profession... finding a way to support our little family financially while still staying at home... but something has been bothering me.

A name.

When I think about what might come in the months (years?) ahead, I want to be able to put a title on it!

Originally, I wanted to go with a cute name... but have since decided that just doesn't feel right, for me. This leaves me with MY name.

Christina Weedon.

Hm. What do you think?

To me, it almost feels like a mouth full of words. Christina Weedon Photography.

So that lead me to wonder about using my middle name. Leanne.

Christina Leanne Photography.

or...

Photography by Christina Leanne? by Christina Weedon?

What sounds the best? Should I ditch my name and go with something else?

I'm really anxious to hear your opinions... what better 'test market' than here??

I am of the opinion that all of the classy photographers use their name. So personally I like Christina Weedon.

I suppose that what I would consider is how big my dream was. Would I ever consider getting big enough to hire other photographers? Would I care or they care if they were shooting under my name? However, I have ALWAYS loved your signature which would turn into a fantastic watermark I think. Or logo...or whatever you call the little branding thing at the bottom corner of professional photos. Then again, the one photographer I've worked with I can't remember her name, but I do remember her reasonably generic (although very well themed-Studio B Photography) business name. Tough call.

I think that everyone uses their name and sometimes it can make you blend in with all of the other people that are out their trying to make their mark in the the photo world. I think that you should find something that shows your personality, and what you love to photograph. Thats my thought and I cant wait to see what you come up with and see you rise to your dream. you will be amazing cause you already are am amazing photographer!!!

This got me thinking to the point where I actually got out the phone book and looked up photographers. Pretty much everyone uses their name, so Christina Weedon Photography. The downside I see is that someone randomly just looking in the phone book would find it hard to know which "name" to choose if they had no prior knowledge of your work or reputation. Therefore maybe a catchier name would jump out at them? But I also think that most photography work comes through word of mouth, someone knows someone who had that photographer, etc. So, yeah, it is a tough decision. My wedding photographer was Ambient Photography.

Off the top of my head though I like "Weedon World Photography" ;) *giggle*

When I was deciding on a name, I went thru the same thing. The deciding factor for me was what domaine name was available, as I knew eventually I would develop a website and would want an address that made sense and was easy to remember. You can go to something like godaddy.com and buy your domaine name/website address now, and then when you are ready, have someone make it a workable website.

Rob's suggestions made me think:

Garden of Weedon Photography

Is that lame? A play on words often helps people remember you! We have a florist at home called Sherwood Florist...Robin Hood lives in Sherwood Forest. I will never forget it! :)

I think Photography by Christina is more simple and personal. Including your middle or last name makes it a) too long and b)sounds too corporate. But that's just me. I also love "Happy Feet" that someone suggested! That's very you. I would want to take my babies there!
