Books

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

This is a scene that repeats itself every night now. Camden is head-over-heels in love with books. He looks through them all day long, touches the pictures, points at things he spots on the pages... and every couple of hours, he brings me something to read. At night, before bed, it isn't uncommon to spend an hour flipping through a big stack of books together.

Happy to oblige, I turn through the pages with him while we snuggle on the couch together.

Because I'm so thrilled over his love of books, I want to encourage him however I can. This means we've been doing a ton of book browsing when we're out and about. They're all so fun to look at! Bright, pretty pictures... rhymes and silly riddles...

...but how do I choose?

Will you help? I'm curious to learn the titles of your favorite books, and those of your kiddos.

My current favorite is near the bottom of the stack in the photo. It's called I Love You Through and Through.

Aww, that is awesome that he is so into reading. I love the Llama, Llama Red Pajama book. So sweet and very clever.

I often choose books from the illustrations within. If the illustrations are fun, well drawn, real life pictures, then I will look further into the story or the words associated with the pictures.

Both my boys LOVE anything from the Hairy Maclary series, by Lynley Dodd. (Did I send you that book?)

All 3 of mine have always loved any of the Karen Katz lift-the-flap books... "Where Is Baby's Belly Button?", "What Does Baby Say?" and "Counting Kisses" are family favorites! There is also a very cute series of books: Little pea, Little Hoot and Little Oink that are silly stories and a bit of reverse psychology for older kids (like ages 2 and up). Millie adores her stacks of books too! It was the best occupier on the plane!

There were a lot of things that law students had in common (all assholes, all somewhat crazy, etc), but the one trait that every single law student I talked to shared was a love of reading books as a child. Let me know when he wants to start his internship.

Oh man! I have a huge love for childrens picture books! There's nothing better! If you want, I can send you an email with all of the titles of my favorite books and authors that I LOVE to read to my kindergarteners! There are some amazing authors and illustrators out there! Let me know if you want it!

Hi Christina, I just read this post and wanted to comment that Jack is doing the exact same thing now! I too love how much he loves books. One he keeps pulling out is Head to Toe by Eric Carle. We have a couple others with Eric Carle illustrations and he really likes those as well. Jack LOVES kittys so has looked at the book Cat by Matthew VanFleet so many times that it's already getting worn. That might be a good one if Camden is really into cats.

I just wanted to comment that Benjamin loves all the Baby Einstein books but his favorite is See and Spy Shapes. I don't know if its the bright characters or the rhyming words that sound like songs. Of course I have it memorized! I just start reciting from it and he brings me the book!
